Changes at Verizon: New Every Two, Test Drive, Rebates

by Joe P on February 2, 2009

Last week we learned a lot about some changing policies at Verizon Wireless. None of these developments are positive for consumers, though one just corrects an old problem whereby customers could take advantage of Verizon. That’s in reference to the rebate policy change. Also on the agenda are New Every Two and the Test Drive program. Details after the jump.

Regarding the rebate policy, this is just a correction. Apparently, some customers who paid full retail price for a device were wrongfully given a rebate form. They’d send this in and receive money back for their purchase, even though they didn’t sign a contract. Verizon has closed this loophole, and now only customers who have signed a two-year agreement will be eligible for a rebate.

If you’re looking for something to get upset over, turn your attention to the discontinuing of Verizon’s Test Drive program. Well, it still kind of exists, in that you can port out of Verizon within 30 days. Under the new program, you will still be charged for your wireless usage that month. You won’t be liable for an ETF, though, which is always nice. This policy goes into effect on February 14.

Verizon has also changed their New Every Two tier system. If you enroll in the program after February 14, this is the new program. For plans ranging from $34.99 to $79.98, customers will receive a $30 New Every Two credit, down from $50. For those with plans $79.99 and up, you will receive a $50 credit, down from $100. No, it’s not a happy day in Verizon land. But dems the breaks.
