AppPack for T-Mobile MyTouch leaked

by Michelle L on July 27, 2009

Though the phone isn’t due out for another week and a half, a bundle of applications for T-Mobile’s MyTouch has already leaked. Called the AppPack, the bundle includes some basic, and some of the most popular apps available now through other venues like Apple’s App Store.

The MyTouch will be T-Mobile’s second Android-based phone, following its very popular G1. Already available via pre-sale to existing T-Mobile customers, the MyTouch will be available to everyone on Wednesday, August 5. Google recently launched its own app store, Android Market, as many other mobile companies have done in recent weeks to compete with Apple’s wildly popular—and extremely lucrative—App Store.

The AppPack includes the following applications: myAccount, Visual Voicemail, World Tour, Sherpa, Enhance Phone Book, Movies by Flixster, imeem, Hotspot Locator, and Facebook.

It’s not known how the AppPack was leaked, but one could speculate as to why. With recent news of mobile companies launching their own app stores, and AT&T’s release of the iPhone 3GS, it makes sense that other carriers and handset makers would use any means at their disposal to pull a bit of attention away from Apple. Despite numerous issues with and complaints about AT&T’s service, the iPhone remains the most popular handset currently available, and sales are brisk.

The AppPack leak has since been plugged, and the bundle is once again unavailable, at least until the MyTouch is officially launched next week. After that, expect to see more apps coming from Google’s Android Market, and more Android phones coming down the pike.
