What the major carriers are doing for Mother’s Day

by Joe P on May 9, 2008

The day is fast approaching. And I’ll bet you haven’t gotten your dear old mother a gift for Mother’s Day yet. (Aside: I always thought it should be Mothers’ Day, no?) What better gift than a cell phone? Okay, I can think of a few, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers. So, what are the major carriers offering up for their Mother’s Day promotions?

Sprint

Well, it’s not marked as a Mother’s Day deal, but they’re offering the Sanyo SCP-3200 for free with a two-year agreement. And it’s pink! Moms love pink! Or so I’m told.

That, and you can finally get the BlackBerry Curve.

AT&T

AT&T is promoting some Samsung phones with a nifty commercial. It’s a buy one for $29.99, get one free promotion, after a mail-in rebate, and after signing your life away for two years.

T-Mobile

Because only one in three adults will see his or her mom on Sunday (I will. Hi mom!), T-Mobile is running a special promotion. All T-Mo customers will be able to send and receive unlimited text, picture, video, and instant messages from morn ’til midnight.

Of course, the only problem here is that if Mom isn’t on T-Mobile, it might cost her.

Verizon

Like AT&T, Verizon is running a free and discounted phone promotion — though I haven’t been able to find a fancy YouTube video for it. You can get Mom a BlackBerry Pearl 8130 — it’s pink! — for $99.99. Or you can get her a Samsung Juke for free.

As with AT&T, you’ll have to sign dear ol’ Mom’s life away to a two-year contract to get her this deal. Or maybe you’ll be a good son or daughter and pick up the tab and the contract.
