Verizon has just picked up a Samsung phone and an LG phone to add to its arsenal: the u940 and the VX9100. Both are smartphones featuring touch screens, which seems to be al the rave nowadays. They’re both scheduled to drop in the first quarter of 2008, so check your contract expirations now. Pictures and descriptions after the jump.

As you can see, the u940 is a bit of an iPhone clone — or, more accurately, an LG Voyager clone. The interface is drag-and-drop touchscreen, much like the iPhone with Apple’s 1.1.3 firmware update.

Oh, and the camera is 5 megapixels. That’s a nice upgrade, especially when you’ve seen most camera phones top out below 3 megapixels.

Not quite sure if it has the iPhone-signature touchscreen keyboard, but as you can see it is a slider with a full mechanical keyboard, which is a relief for some.

As for the VX9100, well, there’s not much out there. It just recently received FCC approval. Of course, so did the u940. but since there was already a GSM version of it, we know a bit more. So look for emerging details on the VX9100 to come.
