One of the best features ever incorporated into cell phones is the camera. It’s two gadgets in one slimmed down, easy to carry package. It’s great when you are out and you can take pictures without the burden of a second, and possibly bulky, device.

Most major cell phone manufacturers have made at least one cell phone with a built-in camera, and some companies have made several. Unfortunately, not all cell phone cameras are of good quality and some are better than others. In fact, the bulk of camera phones on CDMA networks are of the VGA or 1.3 megapixel variety, which does not provide a high level of quality. Listed here are the best camera cell phones made for CDMA networks, which are 2 megapixels and up.

Samsung Gleam SCH-U700

Starting the list is the Samsung Gleam SCH-U700. This is a stylish looking clamshell cell phone that has a 2 megapixel camera. It has 50MB of memory to store the pictures taken, but depending on how much of a shutterbug you are, you might need a microSD card for additional storage. Fortunately, the Gleam has a memory slot that allows for cards that can store up to an additional 4GB.

There are six modes of resolution you can take pictures with, the highest being 1600 x 1200 pixels. Night mode is an added feature and there’s also a self-timer. Not only can you take pictures, you can also record video and watch streaming video from the web.

Motorola MOTO Z6c

Motorola’s Moto Z6c makes the list for having an all around great cell phone and a camera to match. Not only does this phone have a camera, it’s capable of roaming overseas on the GSM networks. You can take this cell phone on trips overseas and use it to make calls and take pictures. It already comes with 40MB of shared memory, but most likely not enough if you are traveling. Memory card slots are common on many phones so if you intend on getting a phone for taking pictures, budget in a decent card for extra memory.

This phone features some white balance controls, brightness controls and a self-timer to assist in getting better pictures and the video recording option is always nice to have to, especially when you add the extra memory.

LG Venus VX8800

The LG Venus VX8800 is a slider phone that moved on from the d-pad navigation and integrated a touch screen. The camera is also an upgraded 2 megapixel resolution for more detailed pictures. The 64MB shared memory is a nice start, but with the memory slot that can handle an 8GB card, get one of those and it will be a long time before you need to worry about running out of memory.

The camera has a mode for taking pictures at night, in addition to controls for balancing the white and brightness. If still images aren’t enough for you, the QVGA resolution video will give more life to your outings.

Motorola ROKR Z6m

Although music is the main draw on the ROKR Z6m, that doesn’t mean it can’t include a camera that takes good pictures as well. The ROKR Z6m phone comes with a 2 megapixel camera to take detailed pictures and a landscape viewfinder for a wider range. Like the other camera phones, you’ll most likely need a microSD card for additional memory. The 14MB internal memory available is most likely going to be lower than your preferred usage, especially if the phone is going to double as a music phone. You’re not going to have a lot of room for songs and photos without one, but you’re going to get that with many of the phones. The maximum size of a microSD card allowed is 2GB.

The camera features include a self-timer, color effects and five shutter sounds or no shutter sound at all for sneaky pictures. You can also record video with sound in one of two formats with the recording time limited only by the available memory, unless you are sending videos as messages. Multimedia messages are limited to about 30 seconds.

Motorola RAZR V9m

Another Motorola cell phone to make the list as another great camera phone is the RAZR V9m. Like the ROKR Z6m, the RAZR V9m also has a 2 megapixel resolution camera and doubles as a music phone. The camera on the RAZR V9m can take pictures in one of five modes of varying resolution. It’s a clamshell phone with an external display in addition to the internal display. Internal memory on this cell phone is a gratuitous 65MB, but as with the ROKR Z6m, doubling as a music phone will most likely run that down pretty fast so plan on a getting a 2GB microSD card.

This camera has several features for great picture taking. You get brightness and white balancing, multishot mode, a self-timer and several shutter sounds. The camcorder allows for short video messages, but video clips can go as long as there’s memory available.

Nokia 6275i

If you want a Nokia phone and a camera on it, the Nokia 6275i is one of the better CDMA camera cell phones around. Although it’s a 2 megapixel resolution, the shared memory is somewhat low at 21MB so it would be in your best interest to pick up a memory card when you get the phone before you get too frustrated. The memory card slot is under the battery so some time could be saved by getting the card sooner rather than later.

The camera can record video and has functions for taking pictures at night and self timing. It may not seem like all that great of a cell phone, but it’s the first on this list that has a flash!

LG Glimmer AX-830

This LG cell phone has a nice design, a touch screen interface and also plays music, supporting several formats. The 2 megapixel camera is a nice addition to an already great phone. With it, you can take higher quality pictures and store a lot on the phone using the 128MB of shared memory. Of course, you might want to add more memory by picking up a microSD card to fit in the available 4GB slot since you can record QVGA video as well.

The camera has multi-shot functions, a self-timer for taking the pictures and brightness, white balance controls and night mode so that pictures will come out good in any number of conditions.

LG Shine VX8700

This phone “shines” when it comes to being a camera phone. The LG Shine VX8700 is one of the best CDMA cell phones available. You’re looking at a 2 megapixel quality phone that can take pictures with a resolution up to 1600 x 1200. You get a smaller amount of shared memory, 30MB worth, than most other CDMA camera phones so with some memory being used for other phone functions, you can only take some pictures before needing a memory card. Just get a microSD card, up to 4GB, for the available slot since you’ll need more space.

This camera phone features brightness variations, white balance control and a mode for taking pictures at night. The video features on this phone include recording QVGA quality video, streaming video and video sharing capability. You can even set small sized videos as your wallpaper.

LG enV VX9900

An upgrade to the LG V 9800, the LG evV VX9900 is a thinner, sleeker version with better camera included. With an upgrade from 1.3 megapixels to 2 megapixels, you should notice the better quality pictures depending on which of the four modes you choose to use, the best being 1600 x 1200. The phone starts you off with 64MB of shared memory and includes a slot that can handle an additional maximum of 4GB.

Overall, the phone has an LED flash and can record video in both QVGA and 3GPP2 format. It also has a lens cover to protect it when not in use, just don’t forget to take it off before snapping pictures, and the auto-focus, brightness and night mode features help you takes pictures in a variety of situations.

There’s also an upgrade to the LG enV VX9900, the LG enV2 and they’re very close in specifications. There’s a slight drop in shared memory on the LG enV2, an unusual total of 63MB, but it can handle twice as much memory in the form of an SD card. Video recording is still available at QVGA only, but the flash, auto-focus and night mode are missing. The upgrades in the LG enV2 obvious went elsewhere on the phone.

Samsung Flip Shot SCH-U900

The camera on this cell phone is a 3 megapixel wonder. The resolution of picture quality hits the 2048 x 1536 mark, but it’s not the only resolution option. There are eight resolution modes available to choose from. Smaller resolutions will take up less space which might be necessary with the 56 MB of memory on the phone. This problem can be easily fixed by picking up a microSD card. The phone can handle a microSD card up to 4 GB microSD and if get are frustrated with that amount of space, you’re probably a photographer and should probably have a digital camera.

The Flip Shot has no shortage of features either. For picture quality, the camera has an auto focus feature, brightness functions, white balancing and an LED flash for low lit areas. It even has a mode to scan business cards so you won’t lose track of those important contacts, and really, wouldn’t you just be in awe if you handed someone your business card and they used their phone to scan it?

It includes PictBridge, TV output capability and it can record video, QVGA, to. Just don’t forget, you can make phone calls with it.
