Mobile Notes: Verizon, AT&T, Garmin, iPhone

by Joe P on May 1, 2008

There are a few new launches to announce. Plus, a possible motive behind AT&T’s iPhone subsidy.

  • The Samsung Glyde hits Verizon on May 9. The touchscreen slider will carry a price tag of $499.99 with the signing of a two-year contract.
  • I guess it’ll be tough for the Glyde to be an iPhone killer when it’s going to cost up to $300 more. Is that why AT&T is subsidizing the iPhone? Could be that. Could be that they’re looking to boost demand.
  • It looks like the Garmin Nuvifone will cost $499.99 with a two-year contract. I think I’d be more apt to pick up the Glyde, but since they’re on rival carriers (Nuvifone will be with AT&T), they could be competing on the same level.
  • AT&T will vaunted mobile TV service on May 4. El cuatro de Mayo! It’ll be $15 a month for the basic package, and $30 for the plus package. The press release makes it look like a pretty awesome service.
