Oh, those crazy Apple kids. They’re already lining up in New York for the release of the iPhone, a week in advance. This is apparently a ploy to break the world record for most time spent on line. Talk about pointless records. Maybe they’ll find time to read about how you can get a 3G iPhone for $199 without a contract. At least this isn’t in Canada, where high data rates has Apple ticked off, to the point where they’re not shipping as many units to the country as they had originally intended.
A couple of interesting T-Mobile tidbits. First is that we’re nine days away from message blocking, a long overdue feature. It appears you will be able to block individual numbers, a feature lacking on many carriers. They’ll also offer spam filters and other methods of avoiding unwanted communication. The company could also have a 3G network in its top markets by October. Took ‘em long enough. This isn’t confirmed, though. Nor is their rumored 3G handset additions, including the Sony Ericsson Bella. Something to get excited about, at least.
A New York Times survey has 82 percent of American cellphone users never having text messaged. This seems a bit odd, as you can’t walk down the streets of NYC without seeing someone tapping away at a message. The surprising part, though, is that only 15 percent said they used it more frequently than once a week. This stands in contrast to another survey this year, which claimed that a third of cell phone owners are heavy texters.
