Mobile Notes: Sprint, iPhone, Samsung Instinct

by Joe P on June 19, 2008

June 26 is just a week away. Why is that significant? Be cause Sprint must abandon some airwaves as part of an FCC-mandated spectrum swap. Problem is, their swapping parters might not be ready for another year. Sprint has already lost an appeal to have their deadline extended, but they’re petitioning the FCC again. They were saying last month that adherence to this deadline would “cripple the network.” We’ll see next week, I suppose.

3G iPhone? So what? So say the Japanese. Over 90 percent of those surveyed that they care not for the (over)hyped new device from Apple.

Sprint has decided to undercut the competition with the Samsung Instinct. Instead of offering it for $199 like its rival iPhone, Sprint has decided to slap on a $129.99 price tag. Hey, when you’re putting out a device that is supposed to compete with the iPhone, yet is not as good as the iPhone, you’ve got to keep that price low.

Speaking of the Instinct, it comes out on Friday. But if you want it today, just download and print this flyer (thanks to PhoneNews.com). Bring it to a Sprint store to get your hands on one before anyone who doesn’t read Going Cellular or Phone News.
