Quite the smorgasbord of topics for today’s edition of Mobile Notes. I’m left here wondering just how many times J.D. Power and his associates can go around surveying the wireless industry. It seems like we get a new one every month.
- Motorola continues to slide, as they’re now realizing just a 9.5 percent market share of the cellphone industry. That’s down eight percent from a year ago. As they look to spin off their mobile division, this kind of news can’t be helping.
- Yes, it’s another J.D. Power and Associates wireless survey. It appears that people are happy when switching to unlimited plans, and are 33 percent less likely to switch carriers after the upgrade. So it sounds like this is what the big carriers had in mind. Verizon cleaned up, tough they lost out in the Southeast region to Alltel, and the Southwest region to T-Mobile. AT&T and Sprint were nowhere to be seen.
- A transistor using nanotechnology is said to reduce energy consumption in mobile phones. The cellphone industry is likely ripe for many improvements from advances in nanotechnology.
- Would you switch carriers because of SMS spam? Forty-four percent of Brits would. And that number is only going to rise as they see spam hit more frequently. Thankfully, we’ve taken to suing such operations in the U.S., and have ways to greatly reduce spam texts.
