Mobile Notes: iPhone, Mobile TV, Location technology, FCC

by Joe P on June 6, 2008

According to Reuters [via Engadget Mobile], it looks like the 3G iPhone will be announced for Italy early next week. This is not when it will be available, however. But it should make everyone happy to finally get the announcement.

Speaking of the iPhone, the device is expected to impact the Mobile TV market . Which is good for the market, because it appears that just one percent of cell subscribers actually watch mobile TV at this point.

Remember when the FCC was talking about a new AWS auction, which would bring a free tier of wireless broadband? It’s not looking good. The vote, originally scheduled for June 12, has been pushed back at least a month. And who knows what will happen to the measure by then. For now, the plan is to get the auction approved in July, the rules set in August, and the auction started by year’s end. Whether that will happen remains to be seen.

Confused about location technology? Here’s a primer.
