Mobile Notes: AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon

by Joe P on May 21, 2008

I was going to leave this piece about Verizon off the Notes today, but since I got the other three carriers, I might as well. It appears they’re letting you know that you can maintain control over your VZW account, even when you’re away. Check minutes used, data remaining, and other account features from your handset. It’s stuff that’s been around for a while, but Verizon is promoting it for the summer.

  • AT&T’s WiFi deal with Starbucks keeps getting sweeter. Now, AT&T customers with laptop broadband cards can switch over to WiFi at AT&T hotspots. This allows them to access faster speeds. There are currently 17,000 AT&T WiFi hotspots nationwide, with more to come as they roll out at Starbucks.
  • The nation’s No.1 provider will also start offering insurance on all devices starting June 2. Their insurance policy was previously limited.
  • It seems that Sprint is dragging down wireless customer satisfaction numbers. While AT&T and Verizon continue to improve, Sprint continues to regress. You can say what you will about their other problems, but this looks like No. 1.
  • T-Mobile will launch the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic phone on May 28. It’ll be $49.99 with a two-year deal, and comes with a 1 GB microSD card — and a greeting from Panic! At the Disco.

AT&T will not allow insurance on the iPhone. And on smartphones there will be a $125 deductible. Sprint and Verizon covers all their phones( lost or damage) with a $50 deductible.
