We, along with most any consumer-information publication, are wont to tell you, repeatedly, that you should check your cell phone bill every month. This will familiarize you with the types of charges you incur monthly in addition to your contractual airtime fees. Sometimes, you find something big, like a processing fee disguised as a tax. We’re not saying this always happens, but it sometimes does. But what if you can’t discern what’s what on the bill? That’s where Validas comes in. For a small fee, they’ll look over your cell phone bill and tell you how to save money.
They make things very simple: Upload your electronic bill to their website, wait for them to look it over, and receive a savings report, plus secrets and tips for saving money in the future. All that for just five bucks! And it’s only a one-time fee, since they disambiguate all those charges for you. That way, when you see them the next month, you can figure it all out yourself.
Something seems fishy about a mere $5 charge for the service, though. So let’s go over the negative aspects.
First, do not just download your bill and then upload it to their site. There is private information included in your bill, and you shouldn’t just go handing it over to a random third party. Make sure you have an application that can edit PDF files (such as Adobe Acrobat). Black out all the vital information before sending it to this company. Saving a little money on your cell phone bill can be completely negated by a bout with identity theft.
Second, you might want to take advantage of their “5 bill uploads” plan. It comes for the price of two bill uploads, and analyzing five of your bills will reveal more problems than just one month.
You’ll also want to call the company first, just so you can get your own feel for them. We were left a bit wary when we saw that the answers to most of the FAQs were “see our forum.” That’s not satisfactory.
Still, if this service is up to snuff, you can save yourself a good amount of money per month on your cell phone bill.
