Welcome to the new Going Cellular. Over the past few months we’ve brooded to come up with something that would stand out from other cellular-centric blogs — something that would provide unique value to our readers. We’ve finally come up with that something. It is our pleasure to unveil the Provider Reviews by Area function. This nifty tool draws from over 4000 reviews from three different sources: our sister sites Prepaid Reviews, BBGeeks, and right here at Going Cellular. When you click the blue tab on the top right of your screen, you’ll be able to enter your geographic information and see what users in your area have to say about their cellular experience. We feel it will provide a more comprehensive view of carrier service in your area.

To show you just how this tool works, let’s go through some examples. Say you are thinking about purchasing service from Verizon Wireless in New York City. You’d go to the geographic tool and enter in New York, New York and then select Verizon. You can view those results here. If you scroll down you can see the most recent reviews within 25 miles of your specified location. Not only that, but you can view the top-rated providers in the area. As you can see from this link Verizon gets 2.5 stars in New York, while T-Mobile gets four. By scrolling down to the reviews you can see if this rating is based on service level, plan pricing, or other factors.

Another example would be US Cellular in Chicago. You can see those results here. Right from the start you can see a number of green dots on the map, representing five-star reviews. The top rated providers shows that our users collectively believe that US Cellular is, in fact, the best service in the Chicago area. You can then scroll down and see their review is weighted by a single one-star review, which complains about nationwide coverage. So you know that if you’re going to mostly stay in the Chicago area that US Cellular will likely provide you with quality service. Verizon is also highly rated in Chicago, and you can quickly click to see their reviews.

The key to making this tool the best it can be, we urge you to leave reviews of your current service provider. Send it to friends. Spread the word. The more reviews we can draw from, the more comprehensive and accurate the tool will become. The idea is to make it as useful as possible to as many people as possible. The more reviews we have, the closer we get to that goal.

Oh, yes, the 800-pound gorilla in the room. We’ve also taken this opportunity to revamp the design of Going Ceullular. We think it’s a cleaner look, much easier to navigate than before. Let us know what you think of it.
