It’s just an unlimited kinda day here at Going Cellular. Speaking of, did you know that there’s unlimited browsing of our archives for free? Yeah. No kidding. Anyway — and this is news to me — before Friday or Saturday, you couldn’t use that unlimited calling plan from AT&T on your iPhone. Seriously. You could have spent $400 on your iPhone, and been told “no, you can’t get that calling plan for this phone.” Where’s the justice in that? Well, now you can. And guess what? It’s exactly what you’d expect.
You will be charged $99.99 for the unlimited calling plan. And then guess what? You’ll be charged $20 for the unlimited data plus 200 SMS plan. No, I’m not kidding you. Once again — and I’m taking this from IntoMobile — you couldn’t get this with the iPhone before. You couldn’t say “I’d like voice plan X,” if X = unlimited.
Then again, is it something you really want? For $20 less, you can get 1,350 minutes with unlimited nights and weekends and unlimited mobile-to-mobile. Plus you still get the data plan and the 200 SMS. For $20 less than that, you get everything with 900 anytime minutes.
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see a ton of value in the unlimited plan. Then again, I didn’t see much value in it to begin with. Essentially, AT&T and Verizon eliminated two or three higher price points, bringing all of the customers up there down to $99 per month. So at that point they’re banking on upgrading at least as many customers from lesser calling plans.
So I’m just saying that I’d far rather pay $80 per month and take my 900 anytime minutes, plus the unlimited mobile-to-mobile and nights and weekends, rather than shell out $120 for unlimited.
