AT&T lowers rate to Canada

by Michelle L on June 5, 2009

Calling Canada from the United States is now cheaper with AT&T. The carrier recently announced a new plan that lowered the long distance rate for calling Canada considerably over the previous plan. It also offers a new rate for those who want to use their mobile phones while traveling in Canada.

AT&T customers can now call from the US to Canada for nine cents per minute. The previous rate was 19 cents, so the new plan offers quite a bit of savings for those who call Canada frequently. In fact, the high number of calls AT&T customers make to Canada was a major factor in prompting the rate reduction. The new plan costs $4.99 per month, and the new per-minute rate applies whether someone calls a wireless number or a landline.

Those taking advantage of the new plan can also use their wireless phones for just 59 cents per minute while traveling in Canada. Good news all around for those AT&T customers who call or visit Canada. Just remember that these rates apply to calls only, not data. If you have a smartphone, be sure to check on available plans, or call AT&T before leaving the country so you don’t come home to a big bill.
