Missed this one from earlier in the week. AT&T has announced a deal with the New York Times that will allow them to offer their subscribers exclusive access to the New York Times on their phones. This feature allows for access to the New York Times’ entire mobile portal. This signals a further shift towards the use of Internet on phones. Now you can sign up for a simple mobile Web plan and have access to the nation’s most trafficked newspaper site.
“Consumers want immediate access to breaking news, and a wireless handset is a powerful tool for staying connected and informed, regardless of where people are,” said Mark Collins, VP of consumer data for AT&T’s wireless unit. “The New York Times is the most trafficked newspaper Web site in the country, and we’re giving our customers an easy way to connect to it through AT&T wireless devices.”
Of course, if you have a data plan on another network, you still have access to the New York Times content. So if you’re with Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, Alltel, etc., don’t mistake this. It’s a plan meant for non-smartphones (still haven’t figured out a good term for that).
